  • My Oregon Plate nutrition sheets (free from AITC, order online)
  • large sheets of paper (14X17)
  • crayons/markers or watercolors
  • scissors
  • glue
  • magazines/catalogs

Oregon Rainbow

Students will make individual posters and engage in a poetry activity to learn about the importance of eating lots of different colored fruits and vegetables.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Set the stage for good nutrition by first completing the My Oregon Plate lesson.
  • It introduces the new federal nutrition guidelines, the five food groups, and Oregon grown foods that fit into each of these groups.
  • Post a copy of the Grown in Oregon map and point out all the different types of foods grown in Oregon.
  • After you have set the ground work, tell students they will be making an Oregon fruit and vegetable rainbow.
