Materials List
  • 1 potato for each student (for best rate of success visit your local garden store for seed potatoes)
  • 1 plastic pop bottle for each student (cut off the top third so you have a jar to put the potato in)
  • Toothpick

Oregon Potato Growing Machine

Students learn about the super food that is the potato and how just a little bit of water can lead to a whole new plant.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Pierce the middle of the potato with toothpicks and suspend it over the plastic pop bottle jar.
  • Fill the jar almost to the top with lukewarm water and set in a bright windowsill.
  • Have students create a potato journal with several pages for illustrations and writing observations.
