The Oregon Agriculture in the Classroom Capital Press Current Events in Agriculture project combines a weekly activity with an up-to-date news story featuring various facets of agriculture. It emphasizes reading newspaper articles, then answering questions requiring critical thinking from Knowledge and Comprehension to Analysis and Evaluation.
Non-Fiction Reading Activity
Each week during the school year, an article from the Capital Press will be selected and five questions will be developed to allow students the opportunity to learn about a current event in the agricultural industry while developing their non-fiction reading skills.
These will be available every Friday morning at 8 a.m. for use on Friday or anytime the following week.
These questions will be designed to use in conjunction with a selected article from the Capital Press. FREE access to an e-edition of the Capital Press is available through the Newspapers in Education program. This activity can be used as a bell ringer activity, weekly assignment or start of a larger writing assignment or discussion.
