Description
Students will sharpen their observation, listening and vocabulary skills with this poetry writing exercise that
features items with an agriculture connection. For higher grades, have students create a haiku, acrositc, mirrored
refrain or cinquain poems.

Instructions
INSTRUCTIONS
- Collect a group of agricultural items (nuts, leather, wool, potatoes, wheat, pumpkins or fruit).
- Place items at stations around the classroom. Assign a number to each item and place a bag next to it with several slips of paper. Write the corresponding number on the bag to match the station.
- Explain that agriculture has long inspired artists and writers.
- Read aloud some examples of poetry with agricultural themes.
