Dairy is an important part of Oregon agriculture, and it’s our official state beverage! Oregon is home to hundreds of dairy farms that care for cows and produce milk used to make products like cheese, yogurt, butter, and ice cream. Dairy farming also plays an important role in Oregon’s economy, supporting farmers, food processors, veterinarians, feed producers, and other agricultural businesses. Oregon dairy farmers work year-round to provide nutritious, high-quality milk while caring for their animals and managing the land and resources they depend on. From the cow to the classroom, dairy offers students a great opportunity to explore animal science, nutrition, agriculture, and food production.

This page will give you more background, history, and science behind the Oregon’s Dairy Production. Use the information to inform your own lessons or encourage students to do some investigating.
