  Get Oregonized is a history book written for students in grades three, four and five studying Oregon's history and regions. The text is designed to help students understand and appreciate the rich history, people and natural resources that shaped the state of Oregon. Maps, illustrations and photographs complement the easy to read text. Classroom sets or individual copies can be purchased through Oregon Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation.The 2013 version of Get Oregonized has an updated design and layout, new sections on potatoes and sheep, an updated forestry section, new color photos and several newly sourced historical and modern pictures. Both the student book and Teacher’s Guide have been updated and meet standards in social sciences for historical knowledge, geography, economics/finance, civics and government, mathematics, science and the arts.Get Oregonized is divided into two sections: Oregon's history and Oregon's geographic regions. The history section highlights various Native American tribes and the arrival of white people to the region. Students learn about famous explorers including Lewis and Clark, pioneers on the Oregon Trail, and about Oregon life through the eyes and words of childrenphoto their own age. Important historical pioneer figures are featured including Henderson Luelling, Tabitha Brown, Asahel Bush, Asa Mead Simpson and Abigail Scott Duniway.The second half of the book explores the regions of the state. Students learn about Oregon's diverse geography, geology, climate, economy and agriculture. From cranberries on the southern Oregon coast to grass seed in the Willamette Valley, to wheat in the Columbia Plateau and ranching on Oregon's high desert, Get Oregonized captures the state's agricultural diversity.Get Oregonized was first written over 25 years ago. Oregon teachers wrote each chapter in the original book. AITC updated and reprinted the book in 2005, 2007 and has completed a fourth printing in 2013. Nearly 10,000 copies of the book are used in classrooms across the state.

  The Teacher’s Guide for Get Oregonized has also been updated. Each section features background information, learner objectives, vocabulary words, lesson plans, enrichment activities and answers to questions from the student book. Included are 66 lessons, a student quiz for each chapter and additional resources.Each chapter in the Teacher’s Guide will start with a list of standards met in that chapter. Get Oregonized has a much broader application than history. There are science, math and art standards and tactile learning opportunities for a variety of learners.
