Apple Faces

30 min lesson

Apples rot and turn brown because they take in oxygen and give off carbon dioxide. If apples are stored in cool temperatures, they will rot slower than they would in room temperature. Other conditions such as humidity, and the storage atmosphere also effect how quickly apples rot.

Use this activity to match baby animals with their parent animals.

Breakfast Relay

60 min lesson

Many students think products simply come from factories or stores. This hands-on activity helps students understand that before an item ever leaves a factory, or enters a store, it began as a resource or product in the natural world – most likely agriculture while also teaching the importance of breakfast and exercise.

Busy Bees

45 min lesson

Bees are some of the most important pollinators for our plants and crops. They are responsible for pollinating many crops that we enjoy such as apples, oranges, carrots, broccoli and over 100 other crops! In this lesson students explore concepts such as pollination and cross pollination between plants through a fun simulation.

Explore the natural behaviors of cattle and engineer a handling system with guidance from Temple Grandin, renowned animal scientist. Students will be challenged to build a corral system using simple materials to move cattle.

Eating Plants

45 min lesson

Students identify the structure and function of six plant parts and classify fruits and vegetables according to which parts of the plants are edible.

Exploring Aquaponics

120 min lesson

The students will identify the basic needs of plants and fish and engineer, assemble, maintain, and observe a small-scale aquaponics system that meets plant and fish needs.

Farm Web

45 min lesson

Students use the visual representation of a web to explore the role of agriculture in their daily lives and understand how most of the necessities of life can be traced back to the farm.

Food Group Sorting

60 min lesson

Students are constantly growing and learning new information about health and nutrition. This lesson teaches about the importance of a well-balanced diet and incorporates all five food groups. Students will participate in a hands-on activity to categorize various foods and meals into the five food groups.
