Workshops and Programming

Our workshops and other programming are supported by generous partnerships with the Tualatin Soil and Water Conservation District, Washington County Master Gardener Association, OSU Extension Service, Hillsboro Parks and Recreation, local farmers and farmers markets, and many others! Click on the sections below to learn more about our programming.

Educator Workshops

Our educator workshops provide training and resources on topics relevant to Washington County agriculture and natural resources. During our workshops we provide hands-on learning kits, connections to local organizations and events, opportunities to connect with other educators, and information on how to access our rich library of books and classroom learning resources.

Have an idea for a great workshop? Feel welcome to reach out and share your ideas! We’re always looking to coordinate workshops that meet the needs and interests of the community.

Our past workshops have included topics and hands-on learning in bread making, bees of Oregon, cheese making, mushrooms, and other agricultural and natural resource practices relevant to the Washington County area.

Fall Literacy Project

The Fall Literacy Project is a Washington County exclusive program. Modeled after our state-wide Spring Literacy Project, we select an agriculturally relevant book to read, pair it with an activity, and bring it to your class!

Virtual Field Trips

Our Washington County Virtual Field Trips offer students an exclusive look inside the exciting agricultural practices and activities taking place in their community.

Please reach out if you have an idea of an interesting agricultural practice taking place in Washington County that would be great to highlight through our VFT programming.

Student Involvement

Are you, or do you know, a student looking to practice their teaching or public speaking skills? Are you, or do you know, a student interested in a career in agricultural education?

We offer volunteer opportunities suitable for students! Volunteering is also an excellent opportunity for high school students needing to complete community service hours or a senior project.

Students can find meaningful volunteer opportunities in the following ways:

  • Participate in our Fall Literacy Project
  • Lead a Virtual Field Trip discussing your 4-H experience
  • Collaborate to lead an educator workshop
  • Co-lead a 1-day classroom lesson

Events and Visits

We would love to table at your next school career fair, open house, or other event! We’ll show up with program materials and examples of kits and other resources that we offer.

Reach out to your Washington County Programs Coordinator, Anita Spaeth, to request them at your next event.
